Heron Rookery – First Attempt

I just discovered a heron rookery not too far from Janesville, Wisconsin. I was there by 9:00 a.m. this morning, but the birds were already settling in for the day. There wasn’t too much activity. I’ll go again tomorrow morning if the weather is good and I’ll try to get there earlier than today. The photo above is my first attempt. The nests were approximately … Continue reading Heron Rookery – First Attempt

The Massacre at Kandahar

In the never-ending cycle of tragedy we see daily in the news, I find it difficult to react appropriately to one event before the next one leaves me numb. But how can anything be said that meaningfully captures or … Continue reading The Massacre at Kandahar

My Year in Books – Hooked on Noir

What have you been reading lately? I have always thought that you can tell much about people by observing what they read (or in some cases, if they read at all). Thoughtful people, presumably, read thoughtfully written books. Frivolous people, in turn, read frivolous books. Perhaps, however, I should be a bit less judgmental about others’ reading tastes. In looking over the list of books … Continue reading My Year in Books – Hooked on Noir
